We could be on for some exciting future models under this hypercar powerhouse

  • Rimac Group will hold a majority stake (55 percent) in Bugatti-Rimac, with Porsche getting the remaining shares (45 percent) on behalf of the VW Group.

  • The two brands will continue to build and badge their products separately for now.

  • An electrified Bugatti and a hybrid hypercar could be on the cards.

It’s official, Bugatti and Rimac Automobili have agreed to form a joint venture called Bugatti-Rimac. This is huge news as it’ll combine Rimac’s electric prowess with Bugatti’s penchant for making speed demons.

Mate Rimac, founder and CEO of Rimac Automobili, will act as the CEO of the joint venture, with the Rimac Group holding the majority stake at 55 percent. Porsche, which already owns a 24 percent share in the Rimac Group, will have the remaining 45 percent stake in the joint venture on behalf of the Volkswagen Group.

So what does this mean for the two hypercar brands? For starters, the two companies will still sell their current products with their own identities. The Bugatti Chiron set a new benchmark for hypercar speed records back in September 2019, with the Chiron Super Sport 300+ setting a blistering top speed of 490.48kmph. The recently unveiled Rimac Nevera electric hypercar also carries its own impressive accolades, with Rimac claiming it is the world’s fastest accelerating hypercar with a 0-100kmph sprint in just 1.97 seconds. The Chiron will still be produced at Bugatti’s Molsheim facility in France, with the Nevera being built in Croatia.

While the joint venture is still tight-lipped on what’s in the pipeline, it's been confirmed that Bugatti can now seriously consider an electrified model, which will likely be powered by Rimac’s powertrain. This is also a boon for Rimac,as Bugatti is well known for building speed demons, and that experience could be beneficial for future Rimac models. Hybrids could also be on the cards.

Bugatti-Rimac will have its headquarters situated in Zagreb, Croatia, and will open its doors to employees towards the end of the year. It's still unclear when these new products under this joint venture will arrive, but we’re certainly looking forward to what this hypercar powerhouse will cook up.
