Bugatti has expanded the Chiron family once again with the debut of the Chiron Super Sport hypercar. At a glance, you’d think it’s the same 490.48kmph record-setting Chiron Super Sport 300+ but Bugatti has made subtle changes that it claims make it a more ‘normal’ variant.
It gets all the extreme bits of the Super Sport 300+, including its quad-turbo 8.0-litre W16 powerhouse that delivers 1600PS and 1600Nm! Its 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission has been altered for a longer seventh gear to aid top speed. It takes 2.4 seconds to reach 100kmph from a standstill, 5.8 seconds to 200kmph, and 12.8 seconds to 300kmph. Like the Super Sport 300+, Bugatti has electronically limited its top speed to 440kmph.
In comparison to the standard Chiron, it gets a 25cm longer body to incorporate a long-tail aero concept. To make that happen, Bugatti has removed the rear wing and airbrake and replaced it with a long-tail rear tip to reduce drag. Even the steering and dampers are firmer to keep the hypercar stable at its astonishing speeds. A bespoke set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres keeps it glued to the road.
From the outside, the Chiron Super Sport looks largely identical to the 300+ with its large air intakes, vented front fenders, and revised diffuser with a stacked exhaust setup. However, it sports a more road-friendly two-tone body shade, compared to the exposed carbon-fibre shade and two orange stripes on the 300+. It even comes with a new set of five-spoke wheels, but can be specced with either the units from the track-focused Pur Sport or the 300+ variant.
The interior is where the Chiron Super Sport really stands out. Unlike the Super Sport 300+ that gets a cabin dominated with carbon fibre, this one is more like the standard Chiron with a mix of leather and polished aluminium on most surfaces and a little bit of carbon fibre. Overall, it gives this speed demon an opulent vibe.
The Bugatti Chiron Super Sport will retail at a price tag of 3.2 million euros (around Rs 28.40 crore), with deliveries commencing in 2022. It's unclear how many units will be produced, but it is likely to be an ultra exclusive offering. Bugatti had earlier stated a production limit of 500, including special editions and different variants.
