Byton is a China-based EV manufacturer. The M-Byte (EV SUV) is expected to debut in China this year.
A 48-inch display stretches almost edge to edge on top of the dashboard.
There’s 7-inch tablet placed on the steering wheel which can be used to control the big screen.
Another 8-inch display finds itself in the centre console, and the front seats have two screens mounted to the headrest for rear occupants.
Okay, before we get on with this, we urge you to take a good look at the video. That’s the future of in-car technology right there.
Impressed? Well, you better be! Byton’s ‘shared experience display’ is the largest in-car display fitted to any production car in the world. It’s 48-inches wide, which works out to be about 7 tablets, or 24 phones. Once you take a good look at it, it’s natural for two questions to pop into your head: One, is that even safe? Two, won’t it distract the driver?

Byton says that the position of the display has been ‘carefully developed and tested’ to ensure it doesn’t hamper the driver’s line of sight. It also claims that the screen will comply with required safety and crash standards in China, US and Europe.
If you think that large screen wasn’t enough, there’s a tablet ON the steering wheel that enables the driver to swipe, pinch, rotate through various displays and menus. If you can’t be bothered with that, you get gesture control too. There’s a second 8-inch tablet on the floor console that the co-passenger can use to reply to texts, get the music going and do whatever the driver can. The two rear passengers get a screen each, just so that they don’t feel left out.

What’s more, when the vehicle is not in motion, the front seats can be rotated inwards by a full 12 degrees. This, Byton says, is to ensure there’s space ‘that is more convenient for passengers in the car to interact and communicate with each other’. So, it’s not about you talking to a screen all the time after all.
