Citroen C3 Automatic vs Rivals: Specifications Compared

Citroen India has taken the wraps off the C3, its new entry-level offering for the Indian market. Though boasting SUV-like styling elements, Citroen deliberately wants us to call it a hatchback. The crossover is slated to launch in the first half of 2022, and will be Citroen’s answer to models like the Tata Punch, Nissan Magnite, and the Renault Kiger as well as hatchbacks like the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Tata Altroz.
Let’s start with the basics first. The C3 is 3.98 metres long and sits on a 2.54 metre wheelbase. In fact, the latter’s specification is better than models like the Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite, and Tata Nexon. Citroen claims it will boast an impressive level of space on the inside, but we would reserve that opinion until we have hands-on experience.
On to the design. The front-end boasts Citroen’s funky design language with the familiar sleek grille that flows cleanly to the DRLs. There are no LED headlamps on offer here. But the rugged bumper with a faux skid plate and orange touches do give the front-end a rugged demeanor.
In profile, the sharply raked A-pillar and upright design gives it an SUV-like stance. Other highlights that make it look macho include roof rails, body cladding on the lower half, and dual-tone alloy wheels. Citroen will offer a host of customisation options where you can mix and match the body and roof colours as well with up to 10 combinations possible.
The rear design is relatively straightforward with a cleanly styled tailgate and tail lamps. The black bumper with silver skid plates add a dash of butchness.
Inside, the dashboard features a straightforward layout with all controls positioned at the right places. The orange trim also uplifts the ambience, in otherwise a drab cabin colour scheme. Also, a hint of French flair can be seen in the AC vents and steering wheel, which seems to be inspired by the larger C5 Aircross.
The cabin is claimed to score high on practicality, courtesy of its 1-litre glove box, two 2-litre door pockets up front, a 1-litre door pocket at the rear, a 315-litre boot, a storage compartment in the centre console, and cup holders.
In terms of features, the C3 comes with a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, steering-mounted controls, three USB sockets, a 12V socket, and a smartphone clamp. Safety should be taken care of by dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors.
Citroen hasn’t divulged the C3’s powertrains yet, but it will be a petrol-only offering. We reckon it could come with 1.2-litre naturally aspirated and turbo-petrol options, paired with both manual and automatic transmissions.
The C3 is likely to be priced from Rs 5.5 lakh, putting it in the same league as the Tata Punch, Nissan Magnite, and the Renault Kiger.
