Honda has launched two new cars this year - the City facelift in February and the WR-V in March. Both of these cars have proven to be worthy additions as they have been leading Honda’s lineup from the front. In April 2017, Honda sold a total of 14,480 units recording a domestic sales growth of 8 per cent compared to April last year. Out of these, Honda sold 5,948 units of the City and 3,266 of the WR-V, which together make up 63.6 per cent of the total sales. Interesting to note here is that Honda had imported 30 units of the Accord Hybrid in the country in March, out of which only one unit is left unsold in the country.
The Honda City has always been a contender for the top-selling car in the premium sedan segment, with only the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz (which now retails from the premium Nexa dealerships) posing a serious threat. When the facelift was launched, we expected the City to have the upper hand in the segment. But, the Ciaz managed to sell 7,024 units; 1,076 units more than the City. Although the City is more feature-loaded than the Ciaz, the difference in the sales figures could be down to the price difference between the two sedans.

The WR-V is Honda’s take on the crossover hatchback segment and goes up against the Hyundai Active i20, Fiat Avventura, VW Cross Polo and the Toyota Etios Cross. Like the Jazz it is based on, the WR-V too packs the same 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engine options. However, it gets a host of additional equipment over its hatchback sibling. In terms of design too, the WR-V looks very much like the Jazz when viewed from the side. However, the front and rear have been reworked thoroughly and gets a muscular stance to make it look like a rugged off-roader. Check out the WR-V first drive review here.
Honda WR-V (WRV): First Drive Review
Honda has to offer class-leading features in its cars if it hopes to beat its direct rivals from Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai. However, this move has started to reflect in price of their cars. With the Ciaz and Hyundai Verna likely to get a facelift soon, the game could soon turn in the City's favour.
