The entry-level E+ and EX trims get the 1.6-litre diesel from the Creta’s top-end variants
  • Hyundai is yet to announce pricing for both variants.
  • All the creature comforts from the E+ and EX with the smaller 1.4-litre variant are carried over.
  • The 1.6-litre diesel engine makes 126PS of power and 260Nm of torque.
  • The Creta is currently priced from Rs 9.99 lakh to Rs 15.67 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

While we wait for the all-new Hyundai Creta that will be based on the now ubiquitous Seltos, Hyundai has silently introduced the 1.6-litre diesel mill in two entry-level variants of the current Creta SUV: E+ and EX. Both the variants were previously only available with a 1.4-litre diesel engine and a 1.6-litre petrol engine. The 1.6-litre diesel engine was reserved for the top-tier S and SX variants. Currently, the Creta is priced from Rs 9.99 lakh to Rs 15.67 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). This should help Hyundai Motor India cut out a few more of S-Cross, Captur, and Seltos customers. Meanwhile, the 2020 Creta, which looks like a grown-up Venue, is all set for launch and will most likely be showcased at the upcoming Auto Expo.

All the features have been carried over from the existing E+ and EX variants. This includes two airbags, ABS with EBD, follow-me-home headlamps, rear AC vents, and all other basic features. Meanwhile, the EX variant gets additional kit like a 4-speaker sound system, bluetooth connectivity, 5-inch touchscreen interface with USB, rear headrest, and front fog lamps.

Note that the 1.6-litre CRDi engine is only available with a 6-speed manual transmission with both the E+ and EX variants. You still have to get the SX variant if you need the convenience of the 6-speed automatic transmission. Other engine options on offer for the Creta are the 1.4-litre CRDi diesel and the 1.6-litre VTVT petrol engine.

With this move, Hyundai will be able to lower the price point of the new Creta broadening its appeal against novel competition from its home turf. But, we are yet to get our hands on the pricing as Hyundai has not made any announcement. Expect a premium of around Rs 60,000 for both variants in comparison to the respective 1.4 diesel variants. The Creta E+ and EX with the 1.4 diesel retails for Rs 9.99 lakh and Rs 11.02 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Its key rivals include the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross, Renault Captur and the Kia Seltos
