Datsun has launched the GO and GO+ automatic gearbox models in India with prices starting at Rs 5.94 lakh (GO) and Rs 6.58 lakh (GO+), respectively. Instead of going for an automated-manual transmission (AMT) like other manufacturers in the segment, the Datsun pair has received the Nissan Micra’s CVT. We have already reviewed both the automatics and you can read about them here. The new automatic gearbox will be available on the T and T(O) variants of both models.
The CVT is a convenience option that has the potential to make the two vehicles more lucrative for urban buyers. The transmission has advantages over other types of gearboxes. CVTs are smoother in their operation than AMTs and offer better fuel efficiency than torque converters. The Datsun GO and GO+ will also get Sport Mode, which will ease overtaking manoeuvres, the company claims. One disadvantage of CVTs is their cost. Following is a list of prices (ex-showroom, Delhi) with the differences between the manual and automatic variants of the two cars.
Variants |
Manual Price |
CVT Price |
Difference |
Datsun GO T |
Rs4,83,230 |
Rs5,94,464 |
Rs1,11,234 |
Datsun GO T(O) |
Rs5,17,492 |
Rs6,18,015 |
Rs1,00,523 |
Datsun GO+ T |
Rs5,67,656 |
Rs6,58,361 |
Rs90705 |
Datsun GO+ T(O) |
Rs5,94,289 |
Rs6,80,153 |
Rs85864 |
The difference you pay for the GO+ automatics is less than that for the GO variants, with the minimum difference being Rs 85,000. However, both the automatic and manual versions have the same equipment levels for each variant, T and T(O). To wit, on the GO rival Maruti Suzuki WagonR, the price difference between its top-spec manual and AMT variants is about Rs 47,000. This makes the CVT on the GO and GO+ a pricey proposition.
Datsun has paid attention to safety in the GO and GO+. Both cars come with enhanced pedestrian protection, better frontal crash protection, reinforcements in the roof, two airbags, ABS, EBD, brake assist (BA), and vehicle dynamics control (VDC). Both cars also come with parking sensors as standard on the variants. Datsun provides a 2-year warranty. For a nominal fee, customers can get an extension of up to 5 years.
