Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, it has been difficult for people to renew their driving licence and vehicle registration. Thankfully, the government has once again extended the deadline to December 31. It was first extended to June, then to the end of July and September.
This order by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has been implemented in all states and union territories in the country. The listed documents include fitness permit (all types), driving licence, registration, and any other concerned documents that couldn’t be renewed due to the lockdown.
The government has further added that ‘the validity of all of the above referred documents whose extension of validity could not or is not likely to be granted due to the lockdown and which had expired since February 1, 2020, or would expire by December 31, 2020, may be treated to be valid till December 31, 2020’.
Aside from renewing registrations, the pandemic has also made visiting a car dealership a risky affair despite all the safety measures in place. Carmakers have been quick to realise the issue and switch to online digital platforms for the purpose. These platforms can be used for various services including booking vehicles, scheduling appointments for test drives and servicing, and availing of special finance schemes for car purchase.
