Dodge has always been famous for its brute supercharged engines (capable of shredding tyres) and insanely pleasing exhaust notes. But soon things are about to change. The manufacturer of one of the world’s most powerful muscle cars has just dropped the first teaser of its first all-electric pony car. And boy, it does look dope!
Fine, a bit of exaggeration might be spelt here by this author as the petrol head might miss the whine of the supercharger (including this author). And let’s admit the fact that petrol engines have much more character than an electric motor. But with manufacturers jumping onto the EV bandwagon, we are happy to see Dodge join the trend. And whisper this while reading, they haven’t really goofed up like Ford by christening an iconic name for an electric SUV.
Details about Dodge’s first EV are dicey, as the teaser just gives us a sneak peek. However, we could make out a few elements. For starters, the electric muscle car comes with a retro design that is reminiscent of other Dodge muscle cars.
Also, the EV was seen doing a four-wheel burnout, which naturally means it will come with all-wheel drive. Dodge EVs will be based on the new STLA large platform, which is capable of putting out up to 449PS (per motor). It will be provided with a battery pack ranging between 101kWh and 118kWh. We expect it to be as or even more powerful than the 840PS Demon which, as Dodge says, can cover the quarter mile in less than 10 seconds.
Dodge’s first electric vehicle will be unveiled in 2024. Until then, let's enjoy that whine of the supercharged V8 before it faces the dreadful axe.
