Italian motorcycle manufacturer Ducati has launched two bikes, the Monster 797 and the Multistrada 950, in India. Both the bikes are Ducati’s most affordable offerings in their respective product families. Bookings for the bikes has started and deliveries will begin from next month onwards.
Ducati Monster 797:
Priced at Rs 7.77 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi (introductory), the Monster 797 is aimed at riders who are new to premium bikes. The Monster 797 follows the characteristic design ethos of the Monster range, albeit in a more compact package. The red-painted 10-spoke alloy wheels and redesigned exhaust muffler are distinguishing design elements from its more powerful siblings. The new bike uses the Ducati Scrambler’s 803cc air-cooled L-twin motor which churns out 76PS of power at 8250rpm and 68.9Nm of torque at 5750rpm. This engine is mated to a 6-speed transmission and gets slipper clutch also. When it comes to electronics, the Monster 797 gets a Bosch 9.1 MP dual channel ABS system and loses out on ride-by-wire, ride modes and traction control as seen on the Monster 821. The bike is built on a tubular trellis steel frame and the front end uses a 43mm Kayaba inverted fork while the rear is suspended by a Sachs monoshock with adjustable rebound and preload. The wheels are shod with Pirelli Diablo Rosso II tyres and braking duties are taken care by dual 320mm front discs with Brembo Monobloc callipers up front and a single 245mm disc at the rear.
With accessible power and a low seat height of 805mm, the Monster promises to be the ideal bike for riders who are looking to buy their first premium bike. Moreover, a generous 16.5 litre fuel tank also enhances the practicality further. Priced at Rs 7.77 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi, the Monster rivals the Kawasaki Z900 and the recently-launched Triumph Street Triple S. Also Read - Ducati Monster 797 - Top 5 Facts
Ducati Multistrada 950:
The Ducati Multistrada 950, despite being the smallest and the most affordable bike in the Multistrada family, still carries over the imposing stance that the Multistradas are known for. The bike is powered by the Hypermotard-derived 937cc liquid-cooled Testastretta L-twin engine. The engine heads have been revised and the output stands at 113PS of power at 9000rpm and 96.2Nm of torque at 7750rpm. The powerplant is mated to a 6-speed transmission with slipper clutch. Coming to the electronics, the bike is packed with features like Ducati Traction Control (DTC), four riding modes (Sport, Touring, Urban, Enduro), and switchable dual-channel ABS. The DTC offers eight levels of intervention with progressively lesser tolerance for wheelspin as the settings go higher. The DTC is also linked with the riding modes for optimum riding dynamics. The ABS comes in three levels and both DTC and ABS can be deactivated if necessary. Also read: Ducati Multistrada 950: Top 5 Facts
The Multistrada employs a tubular steel trellis frame and a twin-sided aluminium swingarm. The 19-inch front wheel is suspended by fully adjustable 48mm KYB inverted forks that offers 170mm of wheel travel. A fully adjustable Sachs monoshock with remote spring preload adjustment does duty on the 17-inch rear wheel.
The rear wheel also has the same travel as the front. The wheels are shod with Pirelli Scorpion Trail II tyres and are anchored by dual 320mm discs with Brembo Monobloc callipers at the front and a single 265mm disc at the rear. At 206kg, the new motorcycle is lighter by 3kg in comparison to the Multistrada 1200. The fuel tank capacity stands at 20 litres and the seat height is fixed at 820mm which is lower than the international-spec model which stands at 840mm. Ducati also offers a low saddle as an optional extra for Rs 19,300 ($300) that reduces the seat height by 20mm. At Rs 12.60 lakh, ex-showroom, India, the Multistrada 950 locks horns with the Honda Africa Twin, Triumph Tiger 800 XRx, Kawasaki Versys 1000 and Suzuki V-Strom 1000.
