Ducati India will launch two new motorcycles in the country tomorrow to expand its Indian portfolio. The two motorcycles are the new Monster 797 and the Multistrada 950. Both the bikes will be positioned as entry-level offerings for their respective brands and will be brought to India from Thailand as CBUs. The Ducati Monster 797 is likely to be priced around 7.8 lakh to Rs 8 lakh while the Multistrada 950 is expected to carry a price tag of around Rs 11.5 lakh (all prices mentioned are ex-showroom, Delhi). The Ducati Monster 797 will be the latest street bike offering from the iconic Italian manufacturer for the Indian market and will sit below the Monster 821 and Monster 1200. In terms of styling, the Monster 797 looks exactly like the 821 but few differentiating elements are a redesigned single exhaust muffler, red frame, 10-spoke alloy wheels and the missing LED DRLs. Powering the Monster 797 is the same 803cc, air-cooled motor as seen on the Ducati Scrambler. The L-twin engine produces 76PS of power and a peak torque of 68.9Nm. The powerplant is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The entry-level Monster loses out on electronics wizardry but gets Brembo M4.32 calipers for braking prowess and a Bosch 9.1MP ABS system. Seat height is also low at 805mm to better suit Asian riders. The tubular steel trellis frame is suspended on KYB 43mm USD fork, and preload/rebound adjustable Sachs monoshock at the back. The Ducati Monster 821 rivals the recently launched Triumph Street Triple S.
The Ducati Multistrada 950, on the other hand, takes design inspiration from the Multistrada 1200. The sports tourer is a handsome motorcycle with an imposing stance. The new bike is powered by the 937cc liquid-cooled Testastretta L-twin as seen on the Hypermotard 939. The engine delivers 115PS and 96Nm of peak torque and is also Euro 4 emission norm compliant. The main purpose of the Multistrada 950, with its petite dimensions, is to make sports tourer bikes from Ducati more welcoming to newbie riders. Also Read - Ducati Multistrada 950 - Top 5 Facts
Ducati engineers have loaded the Multistrada 950 with electronic goodies like four riding modes (Touring, Sport, Urban and Enduro), Ducati Safety Pack, which includes the latest Bosch 9.1 MP ABS with 3-level adjustment and 8-level Ducati Traction Control. Seat height is high though at 840mm and saddle height isn’t adjustable like its 1,200cc sibling. It will rival the likes of the Triumph Tiger, Honda Africa Twin, Kawasaki Versys 1000 and the Suzuki V-Strom.
