The new entry-level Panigale will replace the 959 in India

  • Its Euro 5-compliant 955cc motor makes 5PS more than before.
  • Ducati has equipped the Panigale V2 with a new exhaust system.
  • It also gets a new 4.3-inch TFT display and a tonne of rider aids like cornering ABS, traction control and wheelie control.
  • Could be launched in India by mid-2020.

It seems like Ducati’s engineers and designers have been very busy for the past few months. Because the Italian marque has just launched not one but three all-new motorcycles! We will of course update you about the Streetfighter V4 and the new Multistrada 1260 GT but for now, let’s focus on the Panigale V2, the ‘baby’ Panigale in Ducati’s lineup.

In terms of design, rather than looking like a toned-down version of the mental Panigale V4, the V2 variant looks like a mix and match of the V4 and the Panigale 959. It gets the same monocoque frame as the 959 but Ducati says that it has made a few modifications to the chassis to make it more agile.

Powering the baby Panigale is the same 955cc Superquadro engine as seen on the 959, but now it is Euro 5/BS6-compliant. This powerplant churns out 155PS of power at 10,750rpm and 104Nm of torque, which is 5PS and 2Nm more than the Panigale 959. Suspension setup remains the same as the current-gen Panigale 959: 43mm Showa Big Piston Fork (BPF) at the front and Sachs monoshock at the rear, both fully adjustable.

Being a Ducati, it gets truckloads of rider aids. You get a new 6-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), cornering ABS, Ducati Traction Control (DTC), wheelie control, bi-directional quick-shifter and engine brake control. All these fancy electronic nannies can be controlled via a new 4.3-inch TFT display.

Now for the more important part: Will it come to India? Absolutely yes! You see, the new Panigale V2 is Euro 5-compliant, which means it will adhere to our emission norms as well. There’s no word from Ducati India yet about its launch but we expect it to come to our shores by mid-2020, bearing a price tag of around Rs 16.5 lakh to Rs 17.0 lakh (ex-showroom).
