It was only recently that Ducati unveiled its MotoGP-inspired V4 engine that will be powering the Panigales from here on. Don't be disheartened though, as there is still a ray of light for those who drool over Ducati's V-twin engines and their character.
The Italian bike maker recently declared that they are far from applying brakes to the production of V-twin-powered superbikes. The previous version of the 1299 Panigale was only Euro 3-approved and that’s why the bike could only be sold in limited numbers, that too with some exemption on Euro 3 norms. The Final Edition of the Panigale, though, is Euro 4-approved and Ducati will continue to sell as many numbers as possible in Europe till 2020.
So while the 1299 Panigale is out of production, Ducati also states that the V-twin will exist and will continue to power the superbike line-up post-2020, even if it's just the 959 Panigale. This is primarily because the new V4 motor is not only more expensive but takes twice the amount of time to assemble on the production line when compared to the V-twin motor, which also makes it a lot more expensive for a mid-weight segment sportsbike that is price sensitive.
As per reports, Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali said, "We won’t see middleweight versions of the V4 for bikes like the 959 Panigale. The engine cost is very high. We’ll keep on making the V-twin for the 959. Ducati also released a new version of the 959 for this year – the Corse edition, which features Ohlins NIX30 forks and TTX46 shocks, stacked with Akrapovic exhaust cans and a special paint job.”
So the ones interested in buying the Panigale in India and concerned about it going out of production for the new V4 to come in -- please go ahead and buy one. Cause the V4 is going to be a lot more expensive and will take time to reach India.
