Prior to the World Ducati Week, the Italian bikemaker had announced that it would preview an upcoming motorcycle in an enclosed room similar to the Ducati Scrambler which was showcased at the 2014 World Ducati Week. But despite Ducati’s strict embargo a picture has leaked onto the internet giving us a glimpse of the upcoming motorcycle. The new motorcycle will be called the Ducati Supersport and will be offered in two variants – standard and S. The bike that was showcased was the top-spec Supersport S. From the picture we can make out that the styling of the motorcycle has been based on the Panigale full faired sportsbike. The headlight is a redesigned LED unit and so will be the exhaust system and it will get single-sided swingarm unlike the conventional unit as seen on the 959 Panigale.
The frame of the new motorcycle is based on the trellis unit as seen on the Monster 1200 and the XDiavel. It is rumoured that the Ducati Supersport will be powered by a 937cc based on the unit as seen on the Hypermotard 939. According to Ducati officials the Supersport is more of a street oriented motorcycle rather than a track focussed bike like the Panigale family. The riding posture of the bike will be more upright and comfortable rather than being leaned forward and sporty. The Supersport S model will get top-spec Ohlins suspension unit at front and rear along with removable cowl while Brembo units will handle braking duties. The bike will also get an all-digital instrument console which will be compatible with Ducati multimedia system.
The new Ducati Supersport will most likely be equipped with electronic goodies like ABS, three rider modes, eight-level traction control and will ride on super sticky Diablo Rosso II tyres. The Ducati Supersport will most likely make its debut at the 2016 EICMA motorcycle show in Italy later this year with deliveries commencing by early 2017. The Indian debut of the bike will be most likely in first half of 2017 and it will be priced slightly lower than the 959 Panigale.
