Ducati's mid-sized Monster 821 now comes with more muscular design and sharper lines. The headlamp is taken straight from its older sibling, the Monster 1200. Other notable features includes a colour TFT instrument cluster, which is absent even on its more expensive cousins, the Ducati SuperSport and Multistrada 950. Completing the look, the design of the tail section is less busy and now sports a slimmer profile.

The Monster 821 will also get a host of electronic goodies, including Ducati Safety Pack, three-level Bosch ABS, eight-level traction control and three riding modes - Urban, Touring and Sport. Other features include a quickshifter with a slipper clutch.

Powering the motorcycle now is a BSIV-compliant 821cc, 90-degree V-twin engine. However, the power has now gone down by 2PS, to 111.5PS at 9250rpm, compared to the older model. Torque has also gown down from 89.4Nm to 86Nm, at the same 7750rpm, on the new model.

Suspension duties are handled by the same non-adjustable 43mm USD forks at the front and an adjustable monoshock unit at the rear. Braking is taken care of by Brembo 320mm dual disc brakes at the front and a single 245mm disc brake at the rear.

We are expecting the 2018 Ducati Monster 821 to be priced around Rs 10 lakh, ex-showroom. Once launched, it will go up against the Triumph Street Triple S, the Yamaha MT-09 and the newly launched Suzuki GSX-S750. The Triumph Street Triple RS and the Kawasaki Z900 can also be considered potential competitors. However, they have an edge over the Monster 821 with a power difference of around 10 - 15PS for the competitive price tag.
