This segment of cars is all about class and as the name rightly suggests luxury. This year we had some very able competitors from the three German giants – Audi A3, BMW 3GT and the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. And amongst these, the S-Class took the title of the best Luxury Car of the Year at the ET ZigWheels Awards 2014.
All the three cars entered their respective segments with a clear focus. While the Audi A3 made luxury available at a more ‘affordable price’, the BMW 3GT brought in a touch of practicality and finally the S-Class that pleased with a lot of gizmos and comfort.
But, it was the Mercedes-Benz S-Class that took the crown this year, mainly for the fact that it is more than just an evolution of the outgoing model. Everything that you see on the car has class written all over it, right from the chrome front grille that is flanked by those Daytime Running Lamps to the LED taillights at the back. Open the doors and you are welcomed by what is without doubt one of the most fascinating cabins seen in recent times. Starting with four very inviting seats that feature heated mini-snooker massage balls, mood lighting and 1540 watts of sound output from a staggering 24 speakers, the S-Class has everything that you might ask for, and more. And if that still isn’t enough for you, it is an absolute bliss to drive as well.
After driving the three cars back to back, and judging them with their respective segment leaders the choice for the judges was pretty straight forward. When talking about luxury, they just couldn’t leave the S-Class out of the conversation.
