The Suez Canal crisis is finally over, and the Ever Given, refloated. For those of you who weren’t in the loop, a Golden-class container ship, Ever Given, got stuck in the narrow passage of the Suez Canal on March 23 and was freed on March 30. While that may not seem like such a long time, the crisis caused a daily loss of almost USD 9.6 billion (Rs 70,076 crore) in maritime traffic, according to Forbes.

Let’s add some context to why it took so long for the Ever Given to be freed. The container ship is almost 400m long. That’s longer than the Empire State Building, which is nearly 381m tall!

However, humour has always prevailed in the face of adversity. The internet is awash with memes that suggested ridiculous but hilarious ways to get the Ever Given back on its feet (or the bilge, precisely) and on its way:

We all are familiar with the late Paul Walker’s send-off scene in Furious 7, as he parts ways with Vin Diesel and drives off into the sunset to an iconic soundtrack. That epic scene has birthed some hilarious takes on multiple situations, including the Suez Canal crisis. Just as the world was recovering from the economic bashing thanks to COVID-19, the big boat’s snafu caused a blockade in trade, leading to additional economic losses. So, this was the result.
Reminder Of A Local Incident
Looking at the Ever Given, we couldn’t help but notice the uncanny similarity between an incident that happened closer to home. Remember the Fortuner that was stuck or parked in between two walls with no idea how or why it got there? While the Ever Given’s sticky situation is still understandable, the Fortuner-wall sandwich will forever remain a golden moment.

Mercedes-AMG Petronas, the Formula One team dominating the sport since 2014, got in on the action. The image shows a Silver Arrow (the F1 team’s car) towing the Ever Given, showcasing the strength of the AMG power unit while having some fun.
Hyundai Tucson

The Hyundai Tucson is a capable SUV, and a proud owner/photographer has decided to show just what it can do: free a large boat stuck in the Suez Canal, all just with a tow.
Range Rover

If the Tucson isn’t enough, there’s always the Land Rover Range Rover. The sturdy, rugged SUV’s torquier diesel variant puts out 300PS and 650Nm of torque. This surely isn’t enough to free the behemoth that is the Ever Given, but it fits the legend.
WD-40
What’s the first solution that comes to your mind when you see something stuck? If it’s the trusty WD-40 lubricant, then this one's for you. WD-40 can be used for anything and everything, so it could’ve just worked here. Sure, it might have required hundreds of barrels of the stuff, but maybe, just maybe?
