"Err Lewis...you think you can drop me home then?"
In what seems to be fast becoming a tradition at McLaren, yet another bigwig from the team is in the news for being on the wrong side of the law. Ron Dennis recently managed to have his license suspended for crossing the maximum demerits permitted! The former McLaren boss had allegedly been on a spree of traffic violations and the most recent – a jumped red light handed him a six-month suspension. To his credit, Dennis admitted to have jumped the traffic signal but argued that he had to do so to ‘avoid being tail-ended by another friend who was following him’. The incident happened in September and the matter went to court where Dennis appeared recently. At the time of the violation, the former McLaren Team Principal already had 9 points on his license and the jumped red light added another 3 making his total 12 points – the maximum allowed in the UK. The Woking Magistrates Court handed him the suspension and slapped an additional £350 for the offence, as well as court charges.
Looks like the ex-McLaren Team Principal will be relying on some heavily paid chauffeurs to ferry him around for the moment, but as things stand, Lewis Hamilton might be way down at the bottom of that list. The McLaren driver and former World Champ himself was apprehended in Australia last year when he managed to pull donuts on a busy street in his Mercedes C63 AMG which he later admitted was a rather silly move! And what about Hamilton’s dad writing off a Porsche Carrera GT? We’re pretty sure that there are lots more of these instances coming from motorsports celebrities all over the world and if you know of any, leave a comment!
