Polarity Smart Bikes is a Pune-based electric bicycle startup founded in August 2017. Its maiden product, an electric pedal-assisted bike, has been spotted testing in Pune for the first time. Polarity plans to launch the bicycle in late-June.
The company claims it has a top speed of a whopping 100kmph! If that were true, it would become the fastest pedal-assisted electric bicycle in the country. Given that the e-bike will be FAME-II compliant, expect a range of over 80km as well. While the company hasn’t divulged details about the motor's capacity, we expect it to be greater than 250W. This would explain the bike’s claimed top speed too. The motor used in the bicycle is a hub-type Brushless DC unit (BLDC). Powering the motor is most likely to be a removable lithium-ion battery which appears to be nestled inside the frame. Coming to the chassis, it appears to be a custom-made one. There’s also a chain drive linked to the pedals, which is ideal in case you run out of battery juice.
Polarity has equipped the bicycle with top-spec components like an inverted fork up front, a gas-charged monoshock at the rear and fat, knobby tyres. Braking is courtesy the disc brakes on both ends. Other notable features include a full-LED lighting system, including turn indicators, and a motorcycle-like switchgear and digital screen.
Going by all these features, expect Polarity to price its upcoming e-bike at around Rs 60,000 ex-showroom. Stay tuned to ZigWheels for the launch updates!
