Having recently rolled out its first BS6 motorcycle in the form of the new Classic 350 BS6, Royal Enfield will soon be following this up with a slew of more BS6 launches. The Himalayan is expected first with bookings already open for the updated bike, and we’ve now learned that many dealers are also accepting bookings for the Interceptor 650.
BS4 inventory of the Interceptor 650 is nearly sold out at most showrooms, which is what has prompted dealers to start accepting bookings for the BS6 motorcycle. It’ll take Rs 10,000 to secure yourself a brand new Interceptor BS6 with first units expected to arrive at showrooms in mid to late February.
We can’t yet be sure exactly what will be new on the bike, but going by the updates to the Classic 350, we’re not expecting anything drastic. The Interceptor is already fuel-injected, so making it BS6-compliant is a matter of plugging in some new maps and maybe throwing in an additional catalytic converter.
The expected price hike is in the range of Rs 8,000 to 10,000, so perhaps Royal Enfield could throw in some new colour schemes and a couple of small features as well. For reference, the bike currently costs Rs 2.56 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Since the Continental GT 650 uses the same motor as the Interceptor, it’s almost certain that a BS6 version of this bike will be rolled out quite soon as well. Stay tuned to ZigWheels for more updates.
