Unofficial bookings for the Yamaha FZ25 BS6 have commenced across select dealerships in the country. The token amount varies from Rs 3,000 to Rs 10,000, depending on the dealership. Deliveries will commence from March-end or early April. Expect Yamaha to price the bike at around Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000 over the BS4-compliant model, which retails at Rs 1,34,680 (ex-showroom Delhi).

The Japanese brand had unveiled the Yamaha FZ25 BS6 just before Auto Expo this month. It comes with a redesigned headlamp cowl for a more aggressive look. The headlamp, as well as the tail lamp, get LED elements, whereas the indicators are of bulb type. It also comes with an engine cowl for a dash of sportiness. Also, the motorcycle features a new negative LCD multifunction instrument cluster and a side-stand engine cut-off function. Apart from these changes, the motorcycle remains unchanged externally.

The bike packs a 249cc single-cylinder BS6-compliant, fuel-injected air-cooled motor with oil-cooler. It produces 20.8PS at 8000rpm and a maximum torque of 20.1Nm at 6000rpm. In comparison, the carburetted BS4-compliant FZ25 makes just 0.1PS more and 0.1Nm less. It’s commendable that Yamaha has retained the power and torque figures more or less the same despite complying with the strict emission norms.

The added emission controlling equipment has resulted in a 1kg weight increase. It tips the scales at 153kg kerb. The underpinnings have remained the same as before. It continues with the telescopic front fork, Monocross rear shock absorber, 282mm front and 220mm rear disc brake with standard dual-channel ABS.

When launched, the Yamaha FZ25 BS6 will compete against the Suzuki Gixxer 250 BS6, which was unveiled at Auto Expo 2020. The BS6 iteration of the Suzuki motorcycle, too, is expected to go on sale soon.
