Ferrari has launched its flagship V12 supercar, the 812 Superfast in India at a whopping Rs 5.20 crore (ex-showroom India). The 812 is the replacement for the F12 Berlinetta as the flagship Ferrari GT the world over and now in India as well.
As with all flagship Ferrari V12 GT cars, the 812 follows the same front-mid-engine format with RWD. Again, like every GT before it, the 812 is powered by a naturally aspirated F140 (GA) V12 engine and no-replacement-for-displacement-philosophy. The engine displaces 6.5 litres and makes 800PS of max power and 718Nm of peak torque. That’s enough power to power the sun! The engine is mated to a top-of-the-line Getrag 7-speed dual clutch transmission with an E-Differential which sends all 800 horses to the rear wheels. 100kmph from standstill comes up in just 2.9 seconds and at full clip, it can hit 340kmph.
It can achieve those insane speeds partly thanks to the active and passive aerodynamic systems spread across the car. The front features ducts and flaps to increase front-end downforce and feed air to the brakes to keep them cool. These front ducts also increase underbody airflow. The bonnet too features air ducts that direct air to the side of the car that helps increase downforce. And the rear diffuser is fitted with flaps that open up at high speeds to further reduce drag.
Finally, the design, like all modern day Ferraris, is stunning. A true GT car, the Superfast features a long bonnet with sleek lines and a cabin that sits way back on the wheelbase for that slightly rear-biased weight distribution (53 per cent to be precise). The roofline of the compact cabin swoops towards the rear ending in a high tail design which clearly draws inspiration from the iconic 365GTB Daytona. The car sits on beautiful 20-inch wheels adorned by 275 section Pirelli P Zero tyres up front and 315 section rubber at the rear. The cabin, on the other hand, draws inspiration from both, the F12 and the La Ferrari.
Apart from the standard Ferrari driver aids, the new 812 gets a host of new innovations. It gets Side-Slip-Control that lets you slide the car according to your specifications and now allows for 11 per cent better lateral acceleration compared to the F12, which basically means you can now slide faster. It also gets a new traction control system and F1 Track, rear-wheel steering and is the first Ferrari to be fitted with an electronic power steering.
