At a price of Rs 5.13 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai), Fiat has launched the Punto Evo Pure, which blends the styling of the Punto Evo with the barebones nature of the Punto Pure.
The car will be available with only the 1.2-litre petrol engine that makes 68PS of power at 6000rpm and 96Nm of torque at 2500rpm. The same engine is also available in the regular Punto Evo, which retails for Rs 5.45 lakh in the national capital.
Unlike the Punto Pure, The Punto Evo Pure won't come with the fuel-efficient diesel engine, which would have made it a lot more practical as it also packs more power with more than twice the torque. The diesel returns 20kmpl while the petrol is good for 15.8. The Evo Pure is also short on ground clearance with 185mm between the ground and the underbody. The Pure had an SUV-like clearance of 195mm.
The Fiat Punto Evo Pure does make a case for itself with the driving pleasure it offers. As Ford left enthusiasts in the dark with a softly-sprung Figo, Fiat is quick to cash in by offering the most affordable, fun-to-drive car you can buy for about Rs 5 lakh. Its stiff suspension and chassis combo works great on a winding road where the number of horses doesn't count. The old-school hydraulic power steering is another feature that's exclusive to Fiats and is extremely talkative and continually informs the driver about the surface they are driving on and how far they can push the car before losing grip.
Those worried about the reliability aspect will be glad to know that Fiat offers a warranty of 3 years or 1,00,000km. Service interval is also set at 15,000km minimising the number of visits to the service centre.
