At the 2014 Indian Auto Expo, Fiat India announced their plans for the year 2014. These plans included the launch of four new cars by the end of the year along with a large scale expansion of their dealership and service network. The four cars up for launch included the recently launched 2014 Fiat Linea, the new Fiat Avventura, the Fiat 500 Abarth and last but not the least, a new Fiat Punto. Although the first three cars were on display at the Fiat stand at the Auto Expo, the new Fiat Punto was kept under wraps.
Now though, a picture of the new Fiat Punto seems to have been leaked out. The picture is a part of a presentation seen at the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ investor presentation held recently where the group revealed its plans for the next five years across all its various markets, including India. The new Punto seems to be heavily inspired by the design elements of the new Fiat Avventura which will be launched in India in the next few months. The Maserati-esque styling features with the oblong yet pointy headlights seem to have been replace by a more Jaguar inspired nose section. The large air dam is complimented well with the chrome festooned bumper elements and the new fog-lamp surrounds that remind us of the Fiat Linea. The new headlights too have been stretched inwards with a blacked reflector. The headlights though do not showcase any sort of projector or LED setup.
We expect the new Fiat Punto to have the same updated interiors as the new Fiat Linea does. This will include a new design for the dashboard, a newly designed steering wheel and instrument binnacles along with new seats. The new Punto will continue to have features like Bluetooth telephony, USB input and an AUX port for the infotainment system along with other possible features like automatic headlamps and automatic wipers.
We recently spotted the new Fiat Punto being tested in Pune wearing heavy camoflauge. With Fiat India on a roll recently, with over 110 new dealers and a volley of new products, one can expect the new Punto to be announced by the end of the year at prices ranging from around Rs 5.5-7.5 lakh. We also expect Fiat to keep selling the current generation Punto by giving it the Punto Grande Classic tag just as they did with the Fiat Linea.
