The Fiat Linea has been around for the last seven years now and although most of us here at Zigwheels love the car, it has seen poor sales these last few years. Now though, fiat has unveiled the new Fiat Tipo sedan resurrecting a long gone name. The new Fiat Tipo, a sedan will soon make its way to India and replace the aging Linea.
From the looks of it, the Fiat Tipo certainly looks great. The aggressive and angry snout grille combined with the angled headlamps is a nod to some of the newer Maserati designs. Even the tail lamps remind us of the Maserati coupe from the late 90s while the overall proportions of the car are curvaceous. The creases on the roof flow well into those on the bonnet continuing with the aggressive stance. The front bumper adds a bit of class to the car with an almost Volkswagen-ish look. The car also comes with either a 16-inch or 17-inch wheel option.
On the interior front, the typically sporty insides that most Fiats have are present on the tipo too with a combination of grey and black interiors and the sporty seats. The centre console houses a touchscreen infotainment system and a traditional knob setup for the air conditioning. The car also comes with AUX and USB ports, a Bluetooth enabled interface and a navigation system along with a reversing camera.
On the engine front, expect the Tipo to come with both petrol and diesel options. The petrol will be available with both a 1.4-litre naturally aspirated engine and a top of the line turbocharged engine which might get Abarth badging. The diesel version will be a 1.3-litre diesel engine which has been tried and tested in India. Expect the car to make it to India by 2017 and to be priced between Rs 8-11 lakh. The Tipo will go up against the Honda City, Volkswagen Vento, Hyundai Verna, Skoda Rapid and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
