The Tata Avinya X is an SUV concept that recently made its debut at the Auto Expo 2025. However, this isn’t the first time the name ‘Avinya’ has come into the spotlight. Tata Motors had previously showcased the Avinya concept at the Auto Expo 2023, which was in a Sportback form. It is important to note that both Avinya concepts are not iterations or evolutions of the same vehicle. These spaceship-like, large four-wheelers are expected to make their way into the Indian market by 2026, according to Tata's Global Head of Design, Martin Uhlarik. In this article, we will take you through the journey of this unique concept, starting from its inception a few years ago and the brand's optimistic plans for its near future.
Starting with the Sportback and now transitioning to this big futuristic SUV, the Avinya is not the typical Tata SUV you might expect. The Avinya is expected to be positioned as a sister brand — note, a sister brand and not a sub-brand — to Tata, much like Lexus is to Toyota or Jaguar is to JLR. To summarize, the Avinya will spawn a range of vehicles, including sportbacks, SUVs, and even MPVs — specifically large four-wheelers designed for Indian roads. These vehicles will incorporate premium features and a futuristic design language.
The Avinya cars will not carry the typical Tata logo found on other Tata vehicles. Instead, both concepts feature disconnected LED lighting in the front and rear, which resemble the ‘T’ lettering, paying homage to the call ‘T for Tata.’
The Avinya lineup will be entirely electric and is built on JLR’s shared Electric Modular Architecture (EMA) platform, which is exclusively designed for electric vehicles. This platform can accommodate various drivetrains, such as all-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, and multiple battery pack configurations.
The Avinya X concept features a redesigned front with a blanked-off grille and vertical stacks for its LED headlights. It also includes a sophisticated silver skid plate neatly integrated into the bumper. The disconnected LED DRL positioned right at the nose remains unchanged, resembling the brand's logo.

The Tata Avinya boasts a rugged, bulged-out rear paired with a sloping roofline, giving it a slight SUV-coupe appearance. It sits on massive 22-inch alloy wheels and features flush-type door handles on the front doors. The rear doors can be accessed via a touch sensor located on the C-pillar.
At the rear, it retains the same T-shaped LED tail light design seen on previous iterations of the Avinya concept. A massive black bumper with an integrated silver skid plate adds to its bold design.
The new Avinya concept showcases a minimalistic and premium cabin with a dual-tone black and beige interior theme, complemented by a grey dashboard and several eco-friendly material accents. Since the car is still in its concept phase, the interior design remains subject to further changes in the future.
The Avinya X's battery pack parameters remain to be revealed by Tata, however, it is anticipated to have a stated range of at least 500 km. It will be a whole new product line from the manufacturer, with the first item to be sold under this brand anticipated to arrive in 2026. It is anticipated to start at Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom).
