Force Motors has had a long run in India, right since the first wave of independent industrialization way back in 1958. What was then known as Bajaj Tempo has since made numerous vehicles like the Matador, Minidor and Trax, which have now grown into brands themselves. The company has announced that it will be spreading its wings from the commercial vehicles it has been making until now, and stepping into the personal vehicle space.
Cars and products from the new division will come with a new logo, which the company has unveiled along with the news. The meat of the matter however is a sneak peek at the new SUV, which will be its first offering. We had already mentioned about this new SUV in our Cars of 2011 package, and the preview pic revealed confirms the information we had at the start of the year.
The new SUV – whose name was announced as the Force One, will have a 2.2-litre diesel engine that will be made under license from Daimler, with whom Force Motors has shared a good relationship ever since the Matador was made in India. The company has also mentioned that the Force One will have a good balance between rugged offroad features and creature comforts on the inside, which include steering mounted controls, dual AC vents for passenger rows, cruise control and a driver information system. The suspension has been tuned for a plush ride quality by the famous England-based Lotus Engineering, which has also worked on the Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1, the Toyota MR2 and also our very own Mahindra Scorpio.
Meanwhile, you can read more on the SUV in our past story here. Looks like buyers will soon have another home-made option for the Mahindra Scorpio and the Tata Safari real soon.
