Formula E championship could possibly be seen in action in India since FIA had confirmed that they are considering hosting the race in the country. India has previously hosted the Formula One Grand Prix Championship for three times now. If approved, the third season which is likely to be held in 2018 would have the venue either in the city of Delhi, Mumbai or Bangalore. The currently calendar of Formula E series has 11 races which are held in the cities of Asia, America and Europe.
The talk for permits and ideal location in the mentioned cities have already begun with government and local bodies are being considered. For acquiring the required permissions, even the Indian Home Ministry is involved.
Formula E Championship is an electric car race series which has purpose built race machines which run purely on electric power. The cars are capable of reaching 100kmph from standstill under neck-breaking 3 seconds. The cars are run on electric drive which are powered by lithium-ion batteries.
Out of the nine teams participating in the series, Mahindra Racing which owns a team in the championship is the only Indian team race in the series. The Mahindra Racing team currently has Bruno Senna, Nick Heidfeld, and Oliver Rowland for the ongoing second season of the Formula E Championship.
