Due to the rising popularity of SUVs, sedans are at times considered a fading category. However, this year saw the launch of several sedans that captured attention with their debut. From facelifts to new-gen models and even performance-focused models, here are all the sedans launched on our shores in 2024.
One of the models in the sub-4m sedan category to receive a new-gen update was the Honda Amaze. It features a completely new design while sharing resemblance with its larger siblings. The standout highlight of the 2024 Amaze is the inclusion of ADAS, making it the first car in its segment to offer this safety tech. It also received significant interior updates while retaining the 90 PS 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine option.
Amaze's direct rival, the 2024 Maruti Dzire, is the other subcompact sedan whose launch was anticipated for quite some time. With its new-gen update, the Dzire not only features changes to its exterior and interior, but also gets an updated powertrain with a new 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine. Key features include a sunroof, a 9-inch infotainment system, a 360-degree camera, and a wireless phone charger.

With its sporty looks and attractive price tag, BYD launched its all-electric Seal sedan in the first quarter of 2024. The performance-oriented EV, in its top-spec variant, draws power from dual electric motors producing 530 PS and 670 Nm. It comes equipped with features such as a rotating 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a panoramic glass roof, and 9 airbags. The Seal boasts a claimed range of up to 650 km.
Mercedes' premium saloon, the E-Class, received a new-generation update in India. Offered in the long-wheelbase version, the 2024 E-Class features a slightly updated design compared to its predecessor, along with a more premium cabin. The highlight of its feature set is the MBUX Hyperscreen, comprising a 14.9-inch infotainment system and two 12.3-inch displays—one for the driver and one for the front passenger. Engine options include two petrol and a single diesel engine choice.
BMW debuted the new-gen 5 Series in India, first with the i5. The all-electric sedan is offered in a single M60 variant, featuring an 81.2 kWh battery pack coupled with dual electric motors that produce 601 PS and 795 Nm. The i5 can sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in just 3.8 seconds, and delivers a WLTP claimed range of 516 km.
BMW also launched the sportier M5 in India. Over the standard 5 Series, the M5 gets performance-oriented design enhancements and is powered by a 4.4-litre turbocharged V8 petrol engine, which now features plug-in hybrid tech. Combined, the system delivers 727 PS and 1000 Nm, along with a claimed electric-only range of 69 km. Naught to 100 kmph acceleration comes in 3.5 seconds.
Last month, Mercedes launched the sportiest C-Class, the AMG C 63 S E Performance, in India. Its standout aspect is its power output of 680 PS and a staggering 1020 Nm of torque, all from a 2-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine coupled with hybrid technology. The C 63 S E Performance also offers an all-electric range of 13 km and comes equipped with features such as a panoramic sunroof, the MBUX infotainment system, and a Burmester audio system.
In the second quarter of this year, Mercedes launched the AMG S63 E Performance in two variants: the standard and the Edition 1. The latter features bespoke styling elements and interior tweaks to make it appear more meaner. Under the hood, the S63 is powered by a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine paired with plug-in hybrid technology that puts out 802 PS and 1430 Nm. It goes from naught to 100 kmph in just 3.3 seconds, while the top speed is electronically limited to 250 kmph.
