Downsizing and trubocharging is the name of the game in Europe for a while now and as this trend is trickling into India, it is interesting to see updates to cars that are sold here. The Renault Duster, badged as a Dacia in Europe is the next in line for a turbocharger as a replacement for good old displacement. At the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, Dacia unveiled its new TCE 125 moniker Duster 4WD, which houses a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine under its hood.
This engine develops 125PS of power and 205Nm of torque. Dacia says that while maximum torque is available between 2000-3000rpm, 90 percent of this max twist comes at a low 1500rpm. The 4WD duster with this new engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox with a short first gear to handle slow speed rough terrain and a long sixth gear for efficient highway cruising.
Renault’s start-stop system makes the Duster more efficient and further fuel saving tech includes a energy recovery system. The 4WD system is the same as the one seen on the India 4WD diesel duster with a 2WD mode that sends 100 percent power to the front wheels, 4WD lock mode that splits torque evenly and an auto mode that balances torque in accordance to the speed and grip at each wheel.
