The Toyota C-HR compact SUV has been leaked prior to its debut at the 2016 Geneva Auto Show. The new compact SUV will be its entry level SUV offering in almost all countries and will have a standard and hybrid powerplant on offer in a few select markets. In India, Toyota have long contemplated an entry level SUV to take on the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster and Mahindra Scorpio along with other compact SUVs like the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza.

Styling on the C-HR will be similar to the one seen on the C-HR concept. The crossover style SUV gets a slender grille and distinctive headlamps and the C-HR almost seems to be taking the Toyota X-design a notch further. The C-HR also features very distinctive and bulging wheel arches along with a plastic claddings on the side profile. Like most SUVs coming into the market today, the C-HR makes the best use of its sloping roofline by offering an almost floating rear spoiler design along with a set of large wheels and boomerang shaped tail lamps.

Although there is no definitive specification on the C-HR’s internals, the compact crossover SUV will be based on the same TNGA platform that the popular Prius hybrid is based on. Naturally, the C-HR will get a hybrid powerplant along with a conventional petrol and conventional diesel engine. In terms of the hybrid C-HR, expect a 121PS powerplant mated to a CVT and manual gearbox and a front wheel drive layout to be the most probable combination. According to sources, the Toyota C-HR will be built initially in Toyota’s massive facility in Turkey and will be sold in most European countries apart from obvious markets like the United States. In India, the C-HR, if it makes it here in the form seen here, will cost somewhere around the Rs 10 lakh mark and will be offered with a petrol and a diesel motor with a manual and an automatic gearbox.
