The Coronavirus pandemic has forced the authorities to cancel this year's event

As Switzerland battles with the spread of the Coronavirus, the Swiss government has banned events with more than 1,000 people with immediate effect at least until March 15. Following the government’s directive, the 2020 Geneva International Motor Show has been cancelled for 2020. Carmakers from Europe and across the world will have to cancel their show unveilings and launches. Here are the cars we expected to see at the 2020 GIMS:

Hyundai i20

The 2020 i20 was one of the few cars from the show which we were certain would make it to India. Following a leak on the internet, Hyundai jumped the gun and unveiled it ahead of its Geneva debut. Find out how it looks in our story here.

Kia Sorento

Kia Motors had planned to update the Sorento SUV with a facelift and new features. A hybrid variant will be added to the range in 2020. We expect the Sorento to hit showrooms in other countries by late 2020. If the carmaker decides to bring it to India, the Sorento would be a Toyota Fortuner and Hyundai Santa Fe rival.

Volkswagen Golf Mk8 GTI, GTD, and GTE

The eighth-generation Volkswagen Golf GTI and its hybrid and diesel siblings were recently revealed ahead of their scheduled 2020 GIMS debut. The new GTI gets a power bump and advanced driver assistance features. The new GTD features VW’s latest 2.0-litre TDI engine which is cleaner and more powerful. The GTE plug-in hybrid makes a GTD-identical 400Nm of torque and is more powerful than the petrol-powered GTI.

Skoda Octavia RS iV

Like the go-fast Golf, the sporty Octy RS also gets a plug-in hybrid variant. It is likely to get the same 1.4-litre TSI engine as the GTE and will make the same 245PS as the Octavia RS245. We can’t bet on it coming to India, but if it did, the Octavia RS iV will be a more environment-friendly and possibly more fuel-efficient alternative to the RS245.

Hyundai Prophecy concept

The prophecy will preview Hyundai’s concept cars of the future. It features a sporty coupe roofline and a Porsche 911-like rear end. For more, read our story.

Toyota Compact Hybrid SUV

We have only seen teasers of Toyota’s upcoming compact SUV, but we do know three things about it. One, it’ll be based on the same TNGA-B platform as the Yaris hatchback, so it could be fun to drive. It’ll feature hybrid tech and an all-wheel-drive system. Here’s all we know about it.

2020 Porsche 911 Turbo S

We’ve always loved the 911 for its supercar performance and daily driver mannerisms. The 2020 model will feature redesigned bumpers and an even more powerful flat-six engines. Short of the GT3, this is as much fun as you can have from a 911. Read our story for more details.

Czinger 21C

This was one of the most anticipated unveilings of this year’s Geneva Motor Show. The Czinger 21C is a hybrid supercar which was built to compete with the Rimac C-Two. It’s claimed to be faster than a Tesla Roadster. Given that it still breathes air and runs on petrol and electricity, that’s some feat.
