Rovio has signed a deal with Caterham F1 team’s driver Heikki Kovalainen to host his Formula 1 helmet for the 2012 season with a Angry Birds logo and the features of the red bird. Popping out of his green and yellow Caterham CT-01 will be a blood red coloured race helmet with his name written on it in the Angry Bird font. On a technical note, the maker Angry Birds, Rovio Entertainment is the sponsor but the Finnish company is smartly presenting itself with the help of the game. The helmet was designed by fellow Finn Mikael Hastbacka, and has been fine-tuned by Rovio Entertainment.
“This is a great partnership on many levels. It's the first time that I've partnered with a gaming company, and it fits with my larger focus on partnering with unique brands. As a Finn, I'm also happy to be backing a Finnish company on a global platform. Most importantly, I'm a big Angry Birds fan!” Kovalainen said.
In a time when driver suits are full of sponsorship tags, this is the first time any driver has signed a partnership with a gaming company. Besides the helmet, Kovalainen and Rovio are all set to bring in more merchandise for the fans and also introduce a web game that will feature Angry Birds game in a racing theme, something for motorsport fans to look forward to.
Rovio Entertainment has also recently launched a new version of the game, Angry Birds Space.
