September 2024 has kicked off this year's festive season with several exciting car launches. We witnessed the launch of not only the Tata Curvv, but also the MG Windsor EV, which is already creating buzz with its aggressive starting price. That said, in this report, we bring to you a brief recap of all the cars that were launched in the first half of September 2024, along with their key highlights.
After revealing the car back in August, Tata Motors launched the ICE-powered Curvv in the first week of September. Prices for the Curvv start at Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom), however, these prices are introductory. The Curvv is a unique offering in the compact SUV segment, thanks to its SUV-coupe bodystyle. It comes equipped with features such as a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital driver's display, along with niceties like, a panoramic sunroof, and ventilated front seats. The SUV is offered with two turbo-petrol engines and a single diesel engine option. Deliveries for the Curvv are now underway as well.
Maruti Suzuki launched the CNG variants of the 2024 Swift, with prices starting from Rs 8.2 lakh (ex-showroom). The factory-fitted CNG kit is available in three variants: Vxi, Vxi (O), and Zxi. Coming on to the power figures, the 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol unit produces 69.75 PS and 102 Nm in CNG mode, and is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission option only. The 2024 Swift CNG delivers a claimed mileage of 32.85 km/kg.
Hyundai recently launched the facelifted Alcazar in India. It features exterior styling updates inspired by the 2024 Creta, the SUV on which it is based on. Inside, it gets a refreshed dashboard layout along with new features such as dual 10.25-inch screens, dual-zone automatic climate control, wireless phone chargers for rear-seat passengers, and electric boss mode as well. The 2024 Alcazar also features enhanced safety with the addition of ADAS. Hyundai has not made any changes to the powertrain options. Pricing-wise, the 2024 Alcazar ranges between Rs 14.99 lakh and Rs 21.40 lakh (ex-showroom).
Hyundai also launched the Knight Edition of the 2024 Creta facelift. Over the regular model, the Knight Edition features an all-black treatment on both the exterior and interior. It is offered only in the higher-spec S(O) and SX(O) trims. Prices for the 2024 Creta Knight Edition start from Rs 14.51 lakh (ex-showroom). Hyundai is also offering a matte Titan Grey shade for an additional premium.
MG debuted its third electric offering, the Windsor EV, in India at Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). However, the catch with such an attractive price tag is that you have to pay an additional Rs 3.5 per kilometre driven to MG for renting the battery pack. The all-electric crossover is available across three trims, with a 38 kWh battery pack that delivers a claimed range of 331 km.
It gets features such as a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a panoramic glass roof, and an 8.8-inch digital driver’s display. Pricing-wise, it aligns with the Tata Punch EV and the lower-specced variants of the Nexon EV.
Skoda introduced the Monte Carlo Edition of the Slavia with a starting price tag of Rs 15.79 lakh (ex-showroom). The Czech auto manufacturer also launched the Sportline range of the Slavia, starting from Rs 14.05 lakh (ex-showroom). Finished in a gloss red shade, the Monte Carlo Edition features blacked-out elements on the exterior, including the grille, blacked-out 16-inch alloy wheels, and dark chrome-finished door handles. The cabin has an all-black dashboard with red accents, and the special edition is based on the top-spec Prestige variant.
On the other hand, the Sportline range receives a similar black styling treatment on the exterior but is available with all paint shade options. It is based on the mid-spec Signature variant of the sedan. Both the Sportline and Monte Carlo editions are available with either the 1-litre turbocharged petrol or the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine options.
Along with the Slavia, Skoda also launched the Sportline range of the Kushaq, starting at Rs 14.70 lakh (ex-showroom). Similar to the Slavia, it features blacked-out styling on the exterior. Since it is based on the Signature variant of the SUV, it includes features such as a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 6-speaker sound system, and a single-pane sunroof. However, it misses out on niceties like a fully-digital driver display and ventilated front seats. Skoda is offering Rs 30,000 in benefits to the first 5,000 bookings of the special editions.
Hyundai updated the CNG variant lineup of the Aura with the introduction of a new base E variant. The new entry-level variant of the Aura CNG is priced at Rs 7.49 lakh (ex-showroom), undercutting the previous base S variant by Rs 82,000. It features dual-cylinder technology for the CNG setup, while the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine produces 69 PS and 95.2 Nm in CNG mode. In terms of features it gets a 3.5-inch multi-information display with analogue dials, power windows for the front passengers, manual AC, and height adjustable driver seat.
Mercedes launched its first-ever all-electric Maybach, the EQS 680 SUV, in India at Rs 2.25 crore (ex-showroom). Based on the standard model, the EQS 680 features a dual-tone signature exterior finish with other bespoke elements, including a massive grille with vertical chrome inserts. It is equipped with a 107.8 kWh battery pack coupled with two electric motors producing 658 PS and 950 Nm. The SUV is capable of delivering a WLTP-claimed range of 611 km, while the battery supports fast charging up to 200 kW.
These are all the launches that happened in the first half of September 2024.
