Two-wheeler major Hero MotoCorp handed over 100 of its new Achiever 150 cc motorcycles to UNICEF for use in relief and rehabilitation work in earthquake-affected Nepal, the company said in a statement here. Two trucks carrying the motorcycles were flagged off from Hero's manufacturing plant at Gurgaon by James Gitau, deputy representative of UNICEF's India office, along with Hero officials.
"The devastation in Nepal has been widespread and has caused distress and anguish, unparalleled in recent times. The motorcycles donated by Hero MotoCorp will go a long way in boosting our on-ground initiatives in Nepal," Gitau said in a statement. Hero MotoCorp has already donated Rs 1 crore to the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund for "Operation Maitri" to help Nepal, the company said. "Additional financial assistance in the form of a day's salary from each Hero employee and a contribution of matching amount from the company has also been donated towards relief work in Nepal," it added.
