Two-wheeler maker Hero Electric, has launched a new EV in India, which it terms as a high-speed electric scooter, christened Photon. This new electric scooter was on display during the 2014 Auto Expo held earlier this year and the positive response it received there encouraged the company to launch the Photon in our market.
The new Hero Photon electric scooter comes with a range of features including Power and Economy riding modes, high torque controller, steel chassis and an anti-theft alarm.
The Hero Photon looks better than most electric scooters available in the country, due to its conventional scooter like design. This includes a round polycarbonate headlight, telescopic forks, large seat, front disc brake, 10-inch alloy wheels and appealing body colours like Vivid Burgundy, Vanilla White and Velvet Black.
Commenting on this occasion, Sohinder Gill, CEO, Hero Electric, said. "There is a lot of potential in India and we are ready for the EV invasion. Companies are recognising this fact and are working on products and technologies. Keeping in mind the varied needs of customers, it has been our constant endeavor to innovate in the e-two wheeler category, strengthening the trust of our valued customers. We are confident that the new Hero Electric High Speed Photon will further augment our growth in the EV segment"
The Photon powered by a water-proof brushless DC motor with low electro-magnetic interference gives a virtually noiseless ride. The scooter also has electronic controllers with 12 mosfets, 24MHz high-speed controller that gives instant response to the drive-train with minimum signal losses. The Photon's AGM VRLA battery is especially made for the harshest of Indian environmental conditions.
The scooter claims a top speed of around 45kmph and has a range of 50km per charge in Power mode and an 80km range if ridden in the Economy mode. Interestingly the Hero Electric website states that unlike other electric scooters, the Hero Photon has to be registered and riders will require a two-wheeler license.
Priced at Rs 52,790 (ex-showroom Maharashtra) the Hero Electric Photon electric scooter is also available on finance of up to eight months through some Hero Electric vehicle dealerships. The new Hero Electric Photon has been introduced in the metros including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Bangalore.
