The motorcycle is dearer by just Rs 5,500 over the BS4-compliant version!
  • The Hero Super Splendor BS6 was unveiled at the Hero World 2020 last week.
  • Its fuel-injected 125cc motor makes 0.41PS and 0.4Nm less than the BS4 bike.
  • However, it gets a 5-speed gearbox, better suspension travel on both ends and increased ground clearance.
  • Hero MotoCorp unveiled the Super Splendor BS6 at the Hero World 2020 event in Jaipur last week. Now the brand has launched the motorcycle at a starting price of Rs 67,300 for the base drum variant. The disc brake-equipped version costs Rs 70,800, all prices ex-showroom Delhi. Here’s a price comparison with the older BS4-compliant Super Splendor:

For such a small premium, you get a fuel-injected motor with a new 5-speed gearbox, new chassis which has resulted in greater ground clearance (30mm more, at 180mm) and longer travel suspension (14 per cent more up front and 10 per cent at the rear). Hero has also equipped the Super Splendor BS6 with an optional front 240mm disc for the first time.

These changes should more than make up for the lack in power and torque compared to the previous generation model. It makes 10.87PS at 7500rpm and 10.6Nm at 6000rpm, which is 0.41PS and 0.4Nm less than the BS4-compliant Super Splendor. However, the peak torque arrives at 500rpm earlier. This coupled with the reduced kerb weight (122kg kerb, as opposed to the BS4 model’s 125kg) should make the bike a little peppier.

In terms of rivals, the Hero Super Splendor BS6 goes head-to-head against the recently-launched Honda Shine BS6, which starts from Rs 67,857 (ex-Delhi). Here’s the company’s statement regarding the launch:
