Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India, Nitin Gadkari has launched Highways Advisory Service (HAS), an new project which will be providing live traffic updates for National Highway 8. Commuters who wish to travel on the Delhi-Jaipur Highway can now organise their journeys better from the live radio traffic updates. This system has already been implemented in countries like United States, Canada, Singapore and other developed countries.
The live traffic updates provided by the HAS information distribution system will give a heads-up for travellers on national highways about the traffic condition, making the journey safer and hassle-free. 22 bulletins will be issued on daily basis in Phase one by AIR with respect to the signed contract. Information will be collected from concessionaires, patrol vehicles, toll-plazas and traffic marshals.
Nitin Gadkari said, "The radio broadcasts will also raise people's awareness about road safety, which is very necessary for making our highways safe for the commuters."
Gadkari has mentioned that the new system will be implemented soon across the country. The project has been split into three phases. Under Phase-I live traffic updates will be broadcasted from AIR station located in Delhi, Alwar and Jaipur.
In Phase-II, the system will be improved with the use of sensors which will be installed across the entire length of the highways providing real time updates. The received information will be broadcasted via both analog and digital radio methods.
In the final Phase-III, the complete system will have only the digital broadcasting mode with monitoring and third party audits.
