Honda has launched its most affordable ADV in the country, the CB200X, at a price tag of Rs 1,44,500 (ex-showroom Gurugram). This makes the bike almost Rs 14,000 more expensive than the Honda Hornet 2.0 and almost Rs 22,000 more than the Hero XPulse 200. Here’s a closer look at what Honda offers for this steep asking price:
The Honda CB200X is based on the Hornet 2.0 and the additional bodywork has taken inspiration from the Honda CB500X. Bits like the taller windscreen, knuckle guards, and the bash plate add to its off-road cred.
The Honda CB200X gets the same LED headlight unit from its naked sibling, albeit mounted in the new bodywork. Complementing this is the pair of LED indicators integrated into the knuckle guards.
The blue backlit LCD instrument console is borrowed from the Hornet 2.0. It shows off basic information including the gear position but lacks bluetooth connectivity and navigation, something the competition offers.
The 184.4cc single-cylinder engine from the Hornet 2.0 handles duties on the CB200X. Even the performance numbers, rated at 17.23PS at 8500rpm and 16.1Nm at 6000rpm, are unchanged. The Hornet had a meaty low and mid-range grunt, which should be apt for the ADV. However, now thanks to the additional bodywork, the engine has 5kg more to lug around.
Though Honda hasn’t mentioned if it has reworked the internals, the golden USD fork and monoshock seem to be straight off the Hornet 2.0. Given its intended purpose, we expected the Japanese bikemaker to equip the bike with long-travel suspension.
Braking equipment on the Honda CB200X consists of a 276mm disc up front and a 220mm disc at the rear, aided by single-channel ABS, a useful tool for off-road riding. Needless to say, this too has been borrowed from the Hornet.
Though the alloy wheels are shared with its naked sibling, Honda has opted to equip the bike with dual-purpose tyres. We would have liked to see a 19-inch front wheel instead of the 17-inch wheel to do justice to the ‘X’ suffix.
To make the bike comfortable for long hauls, Honda has equipped the CB200X with a split seat setup, with more padding. However, at 810mm, the seat height is the same as the Hornet 2.0.
Honda has equipped the CB200X with a stubby exhaust, which is shared with the Hornet. We would have loved to see a slightly upswept design.
