While Honda is yet to officially launch its new-generation CBR1000RR-R Fireblade range in India, the motorcycles have reached a few BigWing dealerships across the country. Bookings for the bikes were initiated back in July and a few of them have even been delivered to customers. Sadly, the hotter Fireblade SP won’t be launched anytime soon but the entry-level CBR1000RR-R Fireblade is available in India at an ex-showroom price of Rs 33 lakh (Rs 40 lakh on-road Mumbai). That's almost twice as much as the previous-generation Fireblade range that retailed between Rs 17 lakh and Rs 21 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. The new CBR1000RR-R Fireblade is now the most expensive Honda two-wheeler sold in India. The outrageous price tag is partly because it is brought to India via the more expensive CBU route that attracts heavy taxes.
The next-generation CBR1000RR-R gets a new, more compact look. Its bodywork features MotoGP-style aero winglets, similar to the one seen on the Ducati Panigale V4 R. An interesting fact about the bodywork is that it uses a smart key so that the central air intake is not blocked by a manual ignition key cylinder. It features all-LED lighting, a full-colour TFT instrument cluster, and a titanium muffler co-developed with Akrapovic.
The new inline four-cylinder motor uses the same bore and stroke as the RC213V MotoGP bike and a 5 percent lighter MotoGP-spec forged aluminium pistons. It develops a staggering 217.5PS and 113Nm and weighs 201kg. Electronic rider aids include a six-axis IMU unit, nine-level traction control, wheelie control, three power modes, cornering ABS and launch control.
Suspension components include fully adjustable 43mm Showa Big Piston Front fork and a Showa Balance Free Rear monoshock. Braking is via twin 330mm discs with Nissin 4-pot radial calipers up front and Brembo 2-piston caliper with 220mm disc at the back.
The new Honda CBR1000RR is meaner and more capable now but the exorbitant price tag is a tough pill to swallow. It will compete against the BMW S 1000 RR, Yamaha YZF-R1, Ducati Panigale V4, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R and Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory.
