Honda has released the 2021 CBR650R overseas. The middleweight sports tourer gets a greener and more powerful Euro 5/BS6 motor with feature and mechanical updates. It also gets a sharper and meaner look courtesy of a redesigned headlamp unit and new side fairing.

The 649cc inline four-cylinder motor has been significantly updated to meet emission norms. It features revisions to the ECU, cam lobes, intake timing, exhaust system, and crankshaft. The motor now delivers 95PS at 12,000rpm and 63Nm at 8500rpm. In comparison, the BS4-compliant CBR650R sold in India offered 88PS at 11,000rpm and 60.1Nm at 8000rpm. Rider aids include a switchable Honda Selectable Torque Control. It continues to use a six-speed gearbox with a slip and assist clutch.
Besides a sportier motor, the CBR650R also gets sportier chassis updates. It now features 41mm Showa Separate Function Big Piston upside down forks. The new front end should offer better feedback and stability during cornering. It continues to use a pro-link rear monoshock. Braking is via dual 310mm front discs with Nissin radially mounted calipers and a 240mm rear disc.
Honda may launch the updated CBR650R in India early next year. Along with the new updates, it could carry a price premium. We expect the upcoming CBR650R to be priced at around Rs 8.0 lakh. It will compete with the Kawasaki Ninja 650 and the upcoming Benelli 600RR.
