Honda India will be launching the updated version of its large adventure tourer, the CRF1100L Africa Twin, tomorrow. The new Africa Twin looks distinctively different from its predecessor, with taller and slimmer proportions. We expect Honda to bring just the DCT version of the Africa Twin to India, as it has done in the past. Prices of the new bike are expected to be around Rs 15 lakh.
To combat the stringent emission norms, most motorcycle manufacturers have had to increase the cubic capacity of their existing engines to offset the lowered power-to-weight ratio. However, Honda has delivered a masterstroke with the new Africa Twin as it has managed to reduce close to 6kg on the bike while delivering more power. The engine, now larger, pumps out 102PS and 105Nm. Given Honda India’s track record, this motor could be detuned slightly for our market so as to comply with our noise emission laws.

Electronic aids like throttle-by-wire and Honda Selectable Torque Control (HTSC, Honda lingo for traction control) are still found as well, with these two aids now controlled by a six-axis IMU for more precise operation.
