A few months ago, we broke the news of Honda working on an ADV based on the Hornet 2.0. While another exclusive story mentioned that the Japanese manufacturer will be bringing in its new bike in August, it wasn’t until this month that the launch date was officially announced.
Likely to be called the Honda NX200, the bikemaker has been releasing teasers of the bike, giving us a fair idea. For starters, the LED headlight is straight off the Honda Hornet 2.0. However, it’s mounted to a fairing. Next up, we see the knuckle guard-mounted LED indicators. Furthermore, Honda has even equipped the bike with block-pattern tyres and a heavier bash plate. So, is it going to be an all-out trail-happy ADV?
It is unlikely that Honda will take that route. Though the bike seems to have a taller handlebar and comfortable ergonomics, the teaser shows the Honda NX200 mostly being ridden on tarmac. Look closer and you’ll notice the bike gets a golden USD fork, similar to that on the Hornet 2.0. Even the alloy wheel design appears to be very similar to the naked bike. In fact, this bike could take some cues from the Honda CBF190X available in China.
We expect the same 184.4cc single-cylinder motor from the Hornet 2.0 developing 17.3PS and 16.1Nm to be carried over. That said, we’d like Honda to rework the gearing to make the bike better suited for the highway. To know how this engine fares, read our road test of the Honda Hornet 2.0.
Pricing hasn’t been Honda’s strength, and the Hornet 2.0’s asking price of Rs 1.31 lakh is steep to begin with. Now, with the additional equipment, the Honda NX200 could be priced at Rs 1.45 lakh, making it over Rs 25,000 more expensive than the Hero XPulse 200T. Would you opt for the Honda over the Hero?
