This year, Honda killed off the ever popular S2000 and as a swansong for this legendary roadster, the Japanese auto giant has launched an 'Ultimate Edition' version of the car for sale in Europe.

The S2000 Ultimate Edition is a limited edition model of Honda's venerable roadster to mark its end of production and comes with the same highly celebrated 2.0-litre VTEC engine with a almost motorcycle-like 9000rpm redline. And its timeless body comes painted in the same Grand Prix White colour scheme that was originally used on Honda's 1964 F1 car, and mixes it up with some funky-looking graphite coloured alloy wheels.

To balance the pristine white exterior, the Ultimate Edition features a red leather interior which is complimented by red coloured stitching on the gear lever gaiter. Each of the Ultimate Editions will also bear the distinction of having unique numbered plaques on the kickplates which will denote their position in the series.

Ten years on, but the 2.0-litre VTEC mill under the hood remains virtually unchanged, but this is a good thing, as with 240 PS of power on tap, the naturally- aspirate engine boasts one of the best power-per-litre ratios in the world. This technological masterpiece has also won the coveted International Engine of the Year award in the 1.8 to 2.2 litre category five times in its lifetime.

The S2000 Ultimate Edition will be the last edition of this much loved roadster before its global production ceases altogether at the end of June 2009. After that, the S2000 might be relegated to the annals of automotive history and unless Honda plans a revival of the brand anytime in the near future, it might just live on in our hearts as a cult classic.
