Honda has launched the Unicorn BS6 with more than a larger and cleaner motor. Here are five important things you need to know about the new 160cc motorcycle:
Design remains unchanged:
Technically, this would be the CB Unicorn 160 given the engine capacity but Honda has decided to go with the more accepted CB Unicorn 150’s bodywork for the Unicorn BS6. So, you get the familiar headlamp cowl, fuel tank, bodywork, exhaust, and even exhaust setup. The new Unicorn BS6, however, gets a 24mm longer seat.
Gets a fuel-injected BS6 160cc motor:
The 162.71cc air-cooled single has been updated with fuel injection and a catalytic converter. Updated power outputs are 12.92PS and 14Nm. The power output is identical to the Unicorn 150, but torque has gone up by 1.2Nm. The Unicorn BS6 gets a 5-speed gearbox. Surprisingly, the motor does not get ACG starter, which was introduced on Honda BS6 two-wheelers like the Activa 125 BS6, Activa 6G, Dio BS6, SP 125 and Shine BS6.
Lighter than the CB Unicorn 150:
While the Unicorn BS6 shares its underpinnings with the CB Unicorn 150, it is 6kg lighter than the older motorcycle. The Unicorn BS6 is also 10mm shorter than the CB Unicorn 150 despite similar bodywork. Interestingly, the Unicorn BS6 is 4kg heavier than the CB Unicorn 160, which can be attributed to the addition of single-channel ABS and fuel injection.
Misses out on modern features:
Besides the fuel-injected motor, the Unicorn BS6 does not get modern features like LED headlamp, LED DRLs and LED tail lamp. Even the instrument console remains an analogue unit lifted straight off the CB Unicorn 150. The Unicorn BS6, however, gets a DC-powered halogen headlamp, which should offer a brighter beam spread.
It is expensive:
Given the fact that the Unicorn BS6 gets bodywork and features from the old CB Unicorn 150 and the only update is a longer seat and a fuel-injected BS6 motor, we feel the asking price of Rs 93,593 (ex-showroom Delhi) is expensive! It competes with the Bajaj Pulsar 150 BS6 and the TVS Apache RTR 160 2V.
