It may seem like all fun and games when you get to check out all the new cars and bikes launched in the year, but there's a whole lot work that goes into deciding the final recipient of a trophies as prestigious as the ZigWheels Car and Bike of the Year. With a panel of judges including not only the ZigWheels team, but also industry stalwarts such as Avik Chattopadhyay - Branding Specialist, Saffron consultants; Dr. Shrikant Patankar - President & CEO, Hyosung Garware Motors Ltd and Shrikant Apte - Director, FMSCI, Western Region, all the eligible cars and bikes were put through their paces on a pre-specified route to eventually come up with segment winners and subsequently, the Car and Bike of the Year. It all began with a short briefing for the jury giving a quick explanation of what is expected of them through the course of the day.
After that, the jury sprang into action and evaluated each of the nominated cars and bikes before reconvening to vote on the segment winners. Only the segment winners were allowed to go through to contest in the final round for the ultimate prize. A scoring session presided over by Metric Consultancy then followed in which the jury members awarded points to the listed segment winners.
In a format akin to that of the European Car of the Year, each member was alloted 25 points which he/she had to exhaust by distributing them amongst at least five vehicles from the final list. Based on the total points after a summation of the points awarded by each jury member, the vehicles with the highest tally were adjudged the 2010 ZW Car and Bike of the Year. And that folks, is how we here at ZigWheels came to awarding the Ford Figo and the Yamaha SZ-X the Car and Bike of the Year trophies!
