Hyundai’s plan to expand charging infrastructure could possibly have something to do with the imminent launch of the MG ZS EV

  • Extended charging support includes installation of 7.2KW AC chargers at all 15 EV dealers in 11 cities.
  • Kona EV customers will also be provided with a 7.2KW AC charger along with the car.
  • The carmaker has also introduced vehicle-to-vehicle charging capabilities at Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai and Bengaluru.
  • Hyundai rounds off charging support with portable chargers available via roadside assistance on Allianz Truck at Delhi and Bengaluru.

Since its launch in July, the Hyundai Kona Electric kicked off India’s EV push with 302 bookings and 231 deliveries to date. And now the carmaker has decided to extend its charging support to all its customers with a host of charging solutions. The announcement comes just as the Kona EV's direct rival, the MG ZS EV, official reveal on December 5.

As part of the new initiative, Hyundai plans to install 7.2KW AC chargers at all 15 EV dealers across 11 cities. In addition to this, Hyundai will also provide its customers with a 7.2KW AC charger along with the car to juice it from 0-80 per cent in around 6 to 8 hours. The carmaker has also introduced the ‘Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V)’ charging facility for customers in Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai and Bengaluru. Rounding off the charging support is the availability of portable chargers  via roadside assistance on Allianz Truck at Delhi and Bengaluru.

The Kona Electric is India’s first long-range EV with a range of 452km (ARAI certified). Its electric motor churns out 136PS of power and 395Nm of torque. Prices for the Kona EV start from Rs 23.71 lakh post  recent tax relaxations, making it Rs 14 lakh more expensive than the Mahindra eVerito and the recently updated Tata Tigor EV. The latter was revised and launched for private use on October 9.
