The last few weeks saw Chennai being hit with one of the largest floods in its modern history, submerging everything from roads to factories to residential areas in water. The floods have abated now, and relief operations are underway. Lending a helping hand to this, Hyundai India has donated the substantial sum of Rs 2 crores to the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund in Tamil Nadu. Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) is reportedly the first car company to contribute to the fund.

The cheque was handed over by YK Koo, Managing Director, HMIL, to the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Selvi. J Jayalalithaa, at the secretariat in Chennai on 8th December. The state has been home to India’s second largest carmaker and largest exporter since 1996, and this contribution is Hyundai’s way of expressing solidarity with the people of Tamil Nadu as they rebuild their lives in the aftermath of the devastation.

Under the leadership of YK. Koo, Hyundai Motor India Foundation, the CSR arm of Hyundai Motor, has also been conducting a slew of relief activities in Sriperumbudur block and Chennai city to help affected families since the start of this month. Food packets, home essentials and clothing are being distributed in these areas. Sanitation and health camps are also on the anvil.
