  • The QXi is likely to feature Hyundai’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design philosophy.
  • Spied testing with LED tail lamps.
  • Likely to feature DCT gearbox with both petrol and diesel engines.
  • To be launched in April this year.

Hyundai’s first ever sub-four-metre SUV, codenamed QXi, has been spied testing in India again. Looking like a scaled down version of the Hyundai Creta, the QXi is based on the Concept Carlino aka HND-14 that Hyundai showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo, and could be christened the Styx.

Expected to be launched in April this year, the latest round of spy shots reveal more details about the upcoming sub-four-metre SUV. We already know that the QXi will be getting slim LED DRLs and a projector headlamp setup placed on the bumper on the front. Now the shots confirm that the QXi will feature an LED tail lamp cluster at the rear, with the reversing lights placed on the bumper.

Despite the heavy camouflage on the test mule, what is evident from the pictures is the use of Hyundai’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design philosophy in the QXi, which incorporates the split-light design, cascading grille, and a wide stance for the SUV. This design has been seen on all modern Hyundai SUVs, including the upcoming Kona Electric.

In terms of features, being a Hyundai the QXi is likely to come loaded with goodies such as climate control, rear AC vents, steering-mounted audio controls, cruise control and a touchscreen infotainment system.

Hyundai has already confirmed that the QXi will feature a new 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol motor. This engine makes a healthy 120PS of power and 170Nm of torque. Hyundai is also expected to offer a 1.4-litre diesel, borrowed from the Elite i20, that makes 90PS and 220Nm. However, what would really make the QXi an exciting proposition in its segment is the fact that Hyundai could offer the SUV with a dual-clutch gearbox. No other SUV in the sub-15 lakh bracket is offered with a DCT gearbox in India, and the QXi could offer it with both the petrol and diesel options.
