The Indian automotive industry is currently going through a grim phase with the data showing record lows since a couple of years and sales declining nationwide. Despite this, the latest entrant to the busy subcompact SUV segment, the Venue, has registered the most sales in the past month. Dethroning the Vitara Brezza, the Venue is currently the best selling SUV in its segment.
The Korean carmaker’s SUV market shares have also grown to 21 percent with the sales from the Venue, Creta, and the Tucson. The Venue is also currently the best selling UV in India and is the best selling car from Hyundai. The subcompact SUV has managed to overtake the Santro, Grand i10 and the Elite i20 in the race to become the best selling model.
The Venue sold 9,585 units in July, in contrast to the 8,763 units in June. Maruti Suzuki, meanwhile, only managed to sell 5,302 units last month, compared to 8,871 units in the month before. A substantial drop of 40 per cent have been registered with the sales of the Brezza while Mahindra's XUV 300 saw a nominal drop of 6.8 percent with sales dropping to 4,464 units from 4,769 units in June.
Hyundai had also announced that the Venue has garnered 55,000 bookings in just 60 days. Around 18,000 units of the Venue have been sold since its launch and out of that, 55 per cent are variants that come equipped with BlueLink connected features. The DCT variants, meanwhile, accounted for 35 per cent of the total 50,000 bookings so far.
The Venue comes with three engine options and 5 variants to choose from: E, S, SX, SX(O) and SX+. The 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbo-petrol is good for 120PS/172Nm and comes paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT. The 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, on the other hand, makes 83PS/115Nm coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The diesel 1.4-litre unit makes use of a 6-speed manual and produces 90PS of power and 220Nm of torque.
Main competitors for the Venue include the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, and the Mahindra XUV300. Prices for the Venue start from Rs 6.50 lakh and go all the way up till Rs 11.11 lakh (ex-showroom India).
